Dear friends and colleagues,

After the good experience earned from last year’s first course on mechanical ventilation, we are happy to announce the second edition of our Respimad course.  Although maintaining the same course’s philosophy, we are convinced that what we learned from our first experience will allow us to improve the quality of this new edition.

With this in mind it is our pleasure to present you Respimad 2011. Once again our aim is to provide an in depth review of the principles on which mechanical ventilation is based and the available methods to monitor its clinical application.

National and international experts will deepen on essential concepts of mechanical ventilation. These will include modes of controlled and assisted mechanical ventilation, lung mechanics, patient ventilator interaction, interpretation of respiratory waveforms, respiratory monitoring and lung protective mechanical ventilation. This course is aimed at all professionals that use mechanical ventilation in their daily clinical practice.

We have again chosen a theoretical-practical format with a strong emphasis on the educational and didactic experience of the participants. The information delivered during the morning sessions as standard presentations will be followed by practical workshops in the afternoon. Using experimental models with all needed monitoring devices available, the experts will review the principal concepts discussed during the morning theoretical sessions. To potentiate the didactic experience the workshop will be broadcasted to the auditorium allowing an active real time interaction between the audience and the experts.
We hope to see you in our course.

With our best wishes

Fernando Suarez Sipmann
